Historic investment in Missouri's colleges, universities is helping retain students

COLUMBIA, MO. -- It's the largest investment in higher education in decades, sending an additional $70 million to public colleges and universities. Missouri colleges and universities are getting a major boost, a 7% funding increase. This leaves the University of Missouri System, which includes Mizzou, UMKC, UMSL and Missouri S&T set to receive nearly half a billion dollars in total core funding. That's why the state's largest university said it's a big part of why its retention rate is at an all-time high. "We've seen a 3% growth this year over last year," University of Missouri Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies Jim Spain said. "The investment that the state is making is actually helping us further improve the quality of graduates. ST. LOUIS -- With Labor Day weekend ahead of us, travelers will be taking their last vacation of the summer. Friday and Monday are expected to be the busiest days to fly. The Federal Aviation Administration predicts that this will be the third-busiest holiday weekend of the year. The TSA says it expects an 11 percent increase in passengers this Labor Day weekend compared to last year. The TSA also expects to screen more than 14 million passengers from Friday through Wednesday. That number doesn't worry Patty and Carl McKown. Pedestrian Collision on Wanda Avenue Kills 49-Year-Old ManSEASIDE, CA (September 1, 2023) – Wednesday morning, Sinfariano Martinez-Garcia was killed in a pedestrian crash on Noche Buena Street.The fatal collision happened around 7:46 a.m., at Noche Buena Street and Wanda Avenue, near Mal’s Market.According to the police, the male pedestrian was hit by a Ford pickup truck attempting to turn onto Wanda Avenue.
