$1.5M bronze Buddha statue stolen from Los Angeles art gallery: 'Like a museum heist-type thing' (KTLA) – Security cameras captured the moment a valuable Buddha statue worth $1.5 million was stolen from a Los Angeles art gallery earlier this month.The bronze statue, weighing 250 pounds, dates back to Japan’s Edo Period (1603-1867), according to the operators of the Barakat Gallery in Beverly Grove. 2nd man sentenced in Austin car dealership employee murder AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was sentenced to 15 years in state prison on a first-degree murder charge in connection with a November 2020 incident at a northwest Austin car dealership.According to Travis County court documents, Modesto Hernandez-Hernandez, 33, was convicted and sentenced Sept. 7.The murder charge was related to the Nov. 6, 2020, shooting death of 61-year-old Jerry Paul Lee, an employee at the car dealership on Ranch Road 2222. Bayport: City Council to hold workshop on Andersen Elementary relocation The Bayport City Council will hold a special workshop on Monday afternoon to discuss the relocation of Andersen Elementary School.Andersen Elementary, built in 1919, is one of the oldest school buildings in the Stillwater Area Public School District, and district officials have been looking at building a new school in either Bayport or Baytown Township.Bayport officials want to keep a school within city limits, and the proposed location is Barker’s Alps Park on the western edge of the city. The city of Bayport started leasing the Barker’s Alps land, formerly part of the Minnesota State prison farm lands, from the state in the 1970s and purchased the 48-acre parcel in 1985.
